This smoothie is gluten-free, dairy-free, low in FODMAPs, and contains gut-healing ingredients like collagen peptides. With strawberries, bananas, pineapple juice and coconut oil, it is delicious and nutritious. for every body!
Further Food Commentary:
Pineapples contain bromelain, an anti-inflammatory compound*. Coconut oil is easy to digest and its fatty acid structure causes it to be utilized for energy and not stored in our fat cells. But the heavy hitters in this smoothie are the L-glutamine and collagen, both of which can help repair leaky gut.
The lining of the GI tract has a very selective system of letting in the good (vitamins and fully digested nutrients) and keeping out the bad (whole proteins, bacteria, yeast). There are tight junctions that do this. When the digestive tract is over-taxed (as it is in many of us), any number of stressors, such as NSAIDs, bad bacteria, IBS, digestive disorders, gluten, or alcohol, can cause the tight junctions to not be so tight. Collagen and L-glutamine (an amino acid) are said to help repair the lining.
*If sugar content is an issue, reduce the amount of juice and sub in water.
