As the weather changes, it can make us more susceptible to cough, colds, flu and other bugs that get the best of us. One of my favorite go-to spices for combating illness with a strong immune system is turmeric! Due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, it has been used since ancient times in Ayurvedic medicine.
Turmeric – anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral
Ginger – anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral and aids digestion
Cloves – anti-bacterial and anti-viral
Raw, Local Honey – coats the throat and fights pollen allergens
Further Food Commentary:
The golden milk gets its rich golden color from the spice called turmeric! Turmeric is an excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammation ingredient. Ginger root soothes the stomach and ends nausea problems. Be careful if you are on any blood thinners since ginger root has a blood thinning effect and works against Coumadin and Aspirin. Cloves are an antiseptic and have a high amount of manganese. Manganese is an important nutrient for bone formation, as well as protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Cloves works superbly when boiled in milk just like in this recipe!
