You’ve probably heard of Bulletproof coffee. I make a version that I drink daily, and that I call Butter Coffee. Butter Coffee has a lot of health benefits, which come from the specific ingredients in the recipe. One of the benefits of drinking butter coffee each morning is that it puts your body in the routine to burn fat all day, helping you trim down overall. Here, I’ll explain why I use certain ingredients and give you my easy to follow Butter Coffee.
Grass Fed Ghee or Coconut Oil: Butter Coffee
Make sure to ONLY use grass-fed ghee or coconut oil in Butter Coffee. This is because these 2 fats have the RIGHT fats that regulate cholesterol, not add to it. Additionally, coconut oil has the best ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids (which reduces body fat) and is a good source of vitamin K, which according to studies help reduce the risk of heart disease. Additionally, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), found in ghee, has been shown to reduce body fat mass, especially in overweight individuals.
Avoid adding milk or cream
Putting plain milk or cream in coffee reduces the amount of catechins, a type of antioxidant found in coffee. This happens specifically from the milk protein found in milk, casein. So when you eliminate milk in your coffee and use ghee or coconut oil, you’ll get 3 – 4 times more antioxidants.
Gelatin
I always add 1 Tbsp of Further Food’s Grass-Fed and Pasture Raised Gelatin. Similar to collagen, gelatin is beneficial for preventing intestinal damage and improving the lining of the digestive tract, thereby preventing permeability and leaky gut syndrome. The gut lining is one of the body’s most important lines of defense, since it keeps particles from food, bacteria and yeast inside the digestive system where they belong and prevents leakage into the bloodstream, which triggers inflammation.
You can learn more about gelatin benefits here, but they include:
- Improved skin health
- Stronger bones
- Improved sleep quality
- Stronger joints and less joint pain
- Mood Lifter
- Helps in heart health
- High in protein: Approx. 1 1/2 Tbsp of gelatin contains 18g of protein and 75 calories.
Butter Coffee Recipe
Ingredients:
16 oz warm coffee (not super hot)
1 tsp grass-fed ghee (I love using goat milk ghee because I think it tastes better and it’s easier to digest since it’s from grass fed goats!)
1 scoop Further Food Premium Gelatin
Directions:
1. Blend coffee and ghee in blender for a few seconds.
2. Turn off blender, remove the lid, then turn on blender on the lowest speed.
3. Add gelatin. Secure lid and slowly increase speed to the highest and give it one quick “wiz” on high. *Do not blend too long or it will over whip.
4. Pour coffee in a cup and let it sit a minute. The froth will rise to the top.
Enjoy this delicious coffee, knowing that not only does it taste great, but it’s good for you too!
